Wellington Point State High School's chaplaincy service offers ethical, social, emotional and spiritual support to our students and the wider school community through a three day per week service.
Our chaplain's role consists of the following major components:
- Providing free breakfasts so that our students are better equipped and nourished to handle a school day.
- Lunchtime activities to enhance enjoyment of school life and to provide a safe environment.
- Facilitating life skills programs, giving our students the skills needed to cope with issues such as negative self-esteem, grief and loss, bullying, conflict resolution and friendships.
- Organising and distributing food hampers and day-to-day necessities to struggling families.
- Providing one-on-one support to identified students and their families upon request.
Local Chaplaincy Committee (LCC)
The chaplaincy service at Wellington Point High is operated under the auspices of Scripture Union Queensland which acts as the service provider. At the grass roots level, a Local Chaplaincy Committee provides oversight for the chaplaincy program. This committee is made up of school personnel and parents as well as representatives from the local churches and interested community members.
Although the service receives welcome funding from the Federal Government, the LCC is responsible for providing funds to cover the cost of the remaining 1.5 days per week. This funding is generated through voluntary contributions from local churches, community groups and individuals as well as fund raising functions held throughout the year.
